2021.12.04 23:19 Mystic_79 Buy a new laptop or repair old one?
I live in Edmonton, Alberta and currently own a HP Envy 13 (2019). The specs are:
Intel core i7 (8565U) 16 gb RAM (dual channel, 2888 Mhz bus speed) NVIDIA GeForce MX 250 GPU (VRAM is 2 gb) 512 gb SSD
Recently, my laptop's performance has been slowing down and I suspect it's due to dust buildup in the internal components. So my only option is to open up the laptop to clean it. However, my laptop's hinge is broken so if i try opening up the laptop, the screen may just fall apart. Also, the laptop's warranty expired.
So, I can either spend a few hundred bucks fixing this laptop or buy a new one. My main use of the laptop will be for casual gaming (playing games like valorant and minecraft) and doing solid modelling using solidworks (I'm an engineering student). I also tend to keep alot of chrome tabs open and also use it to watch netflix alot.
Keeping all this in mind, what do you guys suggest me to do? I'm kinda on a budget so I'd like to know if it's worth fixing my current laptop for casual gaming or buy a new gaming laptop?

2021.12.04 23:19 Electronic_Donut4679 Stop applying for jobs without compensation in the description
A job is a transaction between your labor and time (and expertise/knowledge on the subject matter) and their pay. When you submit an application with a resume, they know what you bring to the table. It says so on your resume.
Yeah it’s a risk, because a resume doesn’t paint the whole picture of who you are and how you’d contribute. But a salary number doesn’t paint the whole picture either. If your boss winds up being a jackass, the rate of pay won’t tell you that.
Lots of places want you to interview with them without you knowing what they’ll pay until you ask in the interview. Sometimes they won’t even tell you until the second interview. It’s a charade and it’s not worth your time.
Take back some power in this negotiation. Stop applying to jobs where the compensation isn’t listed in the description.

2021.12.04 23:19 bobear2017 I think one of my dogs ate an entire plastic fork… is this an emergency?
I have two large dogs - a large mutt (115 lbs) and an Australian Shepherd (75 lbs). About an hour ago my toddler was eating peanut butter with a plastic fork and it dropped on the ground. Both dogs swarmed around it to lick it, which I didn’t think much of until they moved away and I noticed the fork was completely gone. I searched the area and can’t find it anywhere, which leads me to believe one of them ate it whole. I didn’t hear any crunching and neither of them coughed or anything. Is it possible one of them just swallowed it whole? And if so, is this an emergency or should we just monitor them and make sure it passes?

2021.12.04 23:19 beatleswmc01 Yellow Power Button, No Fans, No Beeps, No Post
Hey everyone. I have a Dell Inspiron 545 with an E5400. I’m having the above mentioned issues, when I hit the power button it turn yellow and there’s a yellow light on the motherboard. No post, no fans, no post. I tried removing the RAM to see if there’s a beep but it still did the same thing.
I’m hoping it’s the CPU but it seems like it would at least try to start. Hopefully it’s not the motherboard. The power supply light is green.

2021.12.04 23:19 hucklebuck13 Cruise reschedule with points
So I know my example may be small, but any insight helps.
We planned on the Wish next December, but that won’t be likely now.
Has anyone had to reschedule a cruise when they used points and cash? This will move all of our points to the following year.
I need to move it because of a highly probable unplanned work trip to a foreign country for approximately a year.
If you have had to move was there any penalties for your reason or similar reason?

2021.12.04 23:19 user11116 Confused on the laws surrounding purchase and shipping of long guns and ammo in CT
I'd appreciate any advice.
I'm stationed here on active duty and just trying to get my ducks in a row and know what's allowed and what's not. So to start off I'll give the background info:
- I'm active duty in the military - I have a CT permit to carry pistols and revolvers - I do not classify for LEOSA - I do not have, but have considered/planned to get a C&R license
I've read the laws on the crappy cga.ct.gov website and I still can't figure out these clusterfuck laws but I guess I have a general idea:
- It is legal to purchase ammunition online and have it shipped to your residence if you have a carry permit. - It is not possible to purchase a pistol/revolver online and have it shipped directly to your residence - it must be shipped by and to an FFL dealer who performs the background check - whether or not you are military/LE whatever. - It is not possible to purchase a long gun online and have it shipped directly to your residence unless , among other exceptions, you are a member of the military or it is a C&R gun and the buyer has a C&R license.
Does that all sound about right? For reference I'm referring to the laws written at https://www.cga.ct.gov/current/pub/chap_529.htm#sec_29-37a .
With all of the above having been said, am I right in thinking that (assuming a store is willing to do so) I am legally permitted to purchase a long gun online (and particularly milsurp C&R) and have it shipped to me without having to go through a FFL dealer and pay for that service - no background check from the state required?

2021.12.04 23:19 bluedecemberart [Offer] Christmas Postcards [US]
Heya! I've got a pile of xmas postcards here for anyone who would like one 🎄 Unfortunately what I've got is basically limited to "more christmas-y" and "less christmas-y," so that's what I'm offering this year.
Some ground rules: * I will not send cards to anyone but you. * I cannot afford to send outside the US right now. This offer is US-only. * One card per person. * No flair required.
